Tracking
Tracking is an enjoyable element. The first class
in
competition is the Appell (Basic Class.) Class. From there the dog
advances to Lower,Higher and Elite Class. Training where tracking
is concerned begins with the handlerplacing out a variety of items
which the dog is then encouraged to seek out or track. The dog's natural
behaviour is exploited to a great degree. If the dog succeeds in finding
it's 'prey', it is rewarded. Most dogs really enjoy this aspect of
training
The competition consists of two parts.
1: Tracking. In the Appell (Basic) Class the handler
is responsible for placing the
items which are to be tracked. This is done at least an hour prior
to thecompetition.
Four items (wooden sticks) are placed out on the track at specific
intervals.
The dog has to follow the track and pick up these items. The items
must be picked
up in order for the test to be approved
2: Obedience, which consists of among other things,
following at will, disposition whenwalking, jumping over obstacles,
retrieving and advancing.
A high number of points is required to ensure progress
to the next class.
